The NEST is not at all compaitible with the Carrier Infinity systems abcd forex pattern advanced features… You would loose a many of the systems key features if you installed a NEST thermostat on that system.. If you decide to move the wires, just let me know, and I can provide guidance. You can use it, but you would need to relocate the wires at the furnace to new positions. I have friends who use a smart thermostat and can enjoy additional features like learning their schedule instead of having to program it, mobile access for control, and the ability to view usage reports. W, R, G, Y, Y2 etc. this will dumb down your system a little. Not sure I would suggest it, but I know you like the nest. Agiain you would need to rewire where the control wires connect to the air handler/furnace and possibly where they land at the outdoor unit. Make sure power is completely off and start at the furnace/air handler, then the outdoor and nest.

- It seems you have an accessory like a humidifier.If that’s the case, you can leave those wires in place, but you will end up with two wires on R.
- Keep in mind that you will need at least six wires between the units for this setup.

This happened with the last Nest product as well (there it was an issue with power from the R wire). It was that new base where I followed your directions, and it worked. So for this second Nest system, I will need to get the base before I can proceed further. I think we are good, so you can close this out. If any issues arise, I can follow up with you.

Also a nest requires a common wire “C”, so five wires are needed to properly wire the nest. If you do not have a 5th wire behind the thermostat you will either need to sacrifice the fan option by using the green wire as the the common. If it helps, I have analyzed the actual savings of various smart thermostats like Lyric, Nest, and Honeywell. The main advantage is that it’s a new gadget; it can schedule and program. However, the Infinity model is a learning thermostat that also tracks and remembers run times and loads.
